This is a pool recruitment for Fixed Term Full Time appointments for an initial term of 12 months with the possibility of extension(s) and/or permanency.

The Mental Health Commission’s (Commission) vision is for Western Australians to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

The Commission has recently established a dedicated Office for Alcohol and Other Drugs as part of broader reforms to improve leadership, accountability and coordination of the alcohol and other drugs system in Western Australia.

The Office of Alcohol and Other Drugs is responsible for informing, developing, and overseeing the Government’s alcohol and other drugs strategy and system-wide strategic policy reform across the State. It will drive interagency coordination and strengthen intergovernmental and sector-wide relationships to achieve better outcomes for the Western Australian community in relation to alcohol and other drugs policy, programs and services.

About you

We are looking for experienced, enthusiastic and dynamic applicants with positive and inclusive leadership qualities for three roles within the newly established Office of Alcohol and Other Drugs.

Previous experience working in the alcohol and other drugs sector or within a strategic policy context is preferred, but all candidates will be considered.

About the roles

Level 7 Manager Programs and Policy – Position No. 00011151

The Manager Programs and Policy leads a small team and leads and contributes to the development of alcohol and other drugs programs, policy and strategy. The position works in collaboration with internal stakeholders and other government and non-government agencies and includes a focus on use of legislation and regulations to prevent and reduce harm, and strategic projects.

Level 7 Manager Strategic Policy – Position No. 00021697

The Manager Strategic Policy is responsible for leading key strategy, policy, and planning initiatives within the scope of the Office of Alcohol and Other Drugs in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders. The position is required to undertake complex research and analysis in relation to the development of policies, strategies, and action plans and will be responsible for leading work associated with services and systems planning.

Manager Strategic Policy JDF 

Level 6 Senior Policy Officer – Position No. 00021686

The Senior Policy Officer is responsible for the planning, development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of alcohol and other drugs strategies, policies, frameworks, action plans, and services planning initiatives. The position is required to undertake research and analysis in relation this work and lead the implementation of strategic projects.

In undertaking the role of any of these positions, the occupant will need to recognise that there is a commitment to focusing on the needs of the individual, their families, carers or advocates working in partnership for better outcomes in relation to mental health and AOD issues.
