The Role

We recognise the key to our success is an exceptional Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and therefore we are seeking an outstanding individual to be part of the National AOD stream leadership team. This position will work closely to support the development of local partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander controlled organisations and local First Nations community groups and further development and implementation of Indigenous specific AOD clinical resources.

This full-time permanent position can be based at any of our AOD centres across Australia with the option to also work from home. The ability to travel interstate will be required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop measures and methods to assess progress in reaching the agenda objective.
  • Ensure up to date and culturally relevant frameworks and materials utilised by the AOD Stream where they impact service delivery to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Assist the Stream to improve it’s cultural capacity, particularly through partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations
  • Develop processes or procedures that facilitate consistent best practice service delivery
  • Coordinate and facilitate communities of practice, working groups and forums
  • Contribute to the coordination of continuous quality improvement and accreditation
  • Assist the AOD Stream to increase it’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce

Reporting to the AOD Senior Specialist, salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 7 with an over award component.

To be successful for the role, you will possess:

  • Degree qualification in social work, welfare, community development or related field and relevant experience
  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background with significant experience working with Aboriginal clients and/or services
  • Experience in social and community services programs including in program management in AOD or related field
  • Demonstrated understanding of and an active interest in the impacts of history, culture and intergenerational trauma on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander colleagues
  • Relevant State Working with Children Check/Vulnerable Persons Check
  • A valid driver’s licence (relevant to state)
