Addressing Underlying Trauma in Opioid Use

Event Date : 7 August 2025

Addressing Underlying Trauma in Opioid Use

Turning Point are hosting a free webinar, Addressing Underlying Trauma in Opioid Use with Dr. Tanya C. Saraiya, Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Up to 90 percent of people with opioid use disorder have trauma exposure, and around 41 percent have PTSD, yet fewer than 12 percent receive treatment for it.

Dr. C. Saraiya will share findings from her work on integrated therapy for Opioid Use Disorder and PTSD, as well as a digital toolkit to assess intimate partner violence in opioid treatment programs. She’ll also reflect on how systemic racism and healthcare barriers impact trauma and treatment.
