Cyrenian House – Cook – Midland Withdrawal and Intervention Centre

We are seeking a qualified Cook to work part-time at our Midland Withdrawal and Intervention Centre.

The successful candidate will be responsible for weekly meal planning, ordering, preparing and cooking a daily menu for consumers residing at MWIC, Monday through to Friday. Additionally, the position will  be responsible for engaging with consumers to share skills and expertise to support healthy eating consistent with their AOD treatment.

The implementation and monitoring of the Food Safety Program in line with laws and regulations and ensuring the safe delivery of food to consumers is an integral component of the role.

The position offered is 20 hours per week at level 2/3 $77,589 – $87,956 per annum pro rata basis (depending on experience).

About MWIC

MWIC provides a six-bed low medical AOD (alcohol and other drugs) withdrawal service offering up to 21 days stay for adults (18 +).

To be appointed / successful in this role you will require the following key qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in planning, ordering (within budget), preparing and cooking nutritious meals appropriate for individuals in different stages of withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs.
  • Skilled in building respectful, professional relationships and promoting healthy eating aligned with AOD treatment goals.
  • Strong understanding of cultural diversity and the ability to incorporate cultural dietary needs into daily meal planning.
  • Knowledge and understanding of food hygiene and the Food Safety program.
  • Food Safety training/certificate.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as part of a team.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to relate well to consumers.
  • Commitment to continuous quality improvement.
  • Current Police Clearance, First Aid Certificate and Drivers Licence.

Desirable competencies:

  • Experience with working in an NGO and/or within the alcohol and other drug or similar sector.
