Palmerston Association is a leading and respected not for profit provider of alcohol and other drug services. We have a rich and proud history of providing support through a range of services including counselling, groups, residential rehabilitation, and educational initiatives.

About the role

Aboriginal People and Culture Advisor is responsible for advising and implementing strategies for recruitment of and development for Aboriginal employees at Palmerston. The role has a direct focus and impact on the attraction and retention of Aboriginal employees, providing consultation to hiring managers, assisting line managers in performance matters for Aboriginal employees, as well as reviewing and improving  people-related structures and programs from a cultural lens. Placed within People & Culture, the role works closely with Palmerston’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Working Group, Aboriginal staff forum, and wider leadership team to support Palmerston’s strategic cultural objectives.

Aboriginality is a genuine requirement for this position (section [50D] of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984)

About you

The successful applicant will have;

  • Demonstrated experience in people and culture and / or learning and development
  • Experience in understanding Aboriginal culture and wellbeing
  • Knowledge of employment practices (recruitment, employee relations, performance development)
  • Demonstrated high level of cultural competency with an ability to support and build culturally safe work environments
  • Ability to work independently when required, as well as in a team, collaborating with other staff and stakeholders to share information and collectively build knowledge.
