Cyrenian House Collaborates with Bethesda Health Care

Bethesda Clinic is the first private mental health service to open in the southern region of Perth. Located in Cockburn Central, Bethesda Clinic’s mission is to deliver the highest quality experience by putting patients at the centre of all it does. The Clinic’s innovative and trauma informed care blends clinical and psychosocial recovery.

Bethesda Clinic offers a range of mental health services consisting of inpatient services, and an outpatient Wellness and Recovery Centre that offers day programs including alcohol and other drug programs.

Bethesda Health Care has partnered with Cyrenian House to provide the Alcohol and Other Drug Recovery Program at the new hospital. This 12-day group program will run each month on an outpatient basis at the new hospital and is planned to commence in May 2023. The Alcohol and Other Drug Recovery Program run by Cyrenian House is designed for those who use alcohol, cannabis or prescription medication excessively. Based on cognitive behavioural and social learning models the program teaches participants to understand the function of alcohol and substance use and adopt more helpful coping strategies. After program completion, participants are encouraged to attend a weekly relapse prevention support group designed to help maintain recovery behaviours.

The AOD program will operate alongside a range of outpatient programs that together comprise Bethesda’s Wellness and Recovery Centre service. Other programs include Mood and Anxiety, Trauma Recovery, and a 12-week Dialetical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) course.
The inpatient service at Bethesda Clinic currently consists of 45 beds, with inpatients having access to a world-class facility, hotel-like accommodation, group therapy, and targeted individual psychosocial interventions conducted by a multidisciplinary team. The multidsciplinary team has a focus on considered discharge planning, to keep patients well in the community and avoid reoccuring admissions. The inpatient service also has the capacity to undertake withdrawal management for patients with alcohol and/or other drug dependence.
Bethesda Clinic Stage 2 will open toward the middle of this year – increasing the bed number to 75, and include a neurostimulation suite – offering ECT and rTms treatment.

Bethesda Clinic is a private service, and is for voluntary consumers with the folowing eligibility:

• Adults 18 years and over who are self caring with Activities of Daily Living.
• Privately insured.
• Veterans.
• First Responders.
• Australian Defence Force personnel.
• Willing and able to participate in group therapy programs.
• Not requiring involuntary treatment under the Mental Health Act.

Referral to the Bethesda Clinic must be via via a General Practitioner or Psychiatrist. Information on how to refer a patient, along with the referral form, can be found via the Bethesda Clinic website or healthlink.
