WANADA – Systemic Advocacy Manager

Full time, 12-month contract with possibility of extension

Bring your career to the next level with this dynamic policy and advocacy leadership role in the Western Australian alcohol and other drug sector.

The Western Australian Network of Alcohol and other Drug Agencies Inc. (WANADA) is the peak body for the alcohol and other drug education, prevention, treatment and support services in Western Australia. WANADA’s purpose is to lead a shared voice within the specialist alcohol and other drug sector that drives positive change needed to achieve best community outcomes.

Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer and the management team, your role as Systemic Advocacy Manager will develop and support WANADA’s capacity to represent sector services within research-informed strategic positions for improved community wellbeing.

Applying a relationship advocacy approach, and transparent engagement principles, you will contribute to an awareness of the sector’s strengths and the challenges faced by individuals, families and communities impacted by alcohol and other drugs. The fundamental purpose of the role is to influence improved strategic responsiveness to alcohol and other drugs by decision makers.

The successful candidate will require:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including high level written and oral presentation capabilities.
  • Demonstrated experience in effective systemic advocacy that draws on research and complex issues analysis as well as understanding government policy and processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise and consult effectively with a range of individuals, with the ability to represent collective and varied perspectives.
  • Sound appreciation of change management, with an understanding of the requirements for the practical application of evidence and policy.
  • Sound planning and organisation skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and reflect on effectiveness, , including management of staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a small team environment.
  • Experience in respectful culturally safe and inclusive practice.
  • Experience in human services and an understanding of alcohol and other drug sector and related policy.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications.
