The Role:

We are seeking a Welfare Worker to join our Mixed Gender Therapeutic Community at Rick Hammersley Therapeutic Centre (TC). This dynamic role involves providing culturally appropriate welfare support, advocacy, and practical life skills education to residents undergoing treatment for alcohol and other drug dependency.

You will work closely with residents to help them engage in community life, access services, and build the skills and confidence needed for successful reintegration into society.

Our Organisation:

Cyrenian House is a leading not-for-profit non-government organisation that has been operating within the alcohol and other drug (AOD) treatment sector since 1981. Cyrenian House provides a wide range of high-quality treatment services that make a positive and meaningful difference in the lives of people affected by alcohol and other drugs.

The position is Max Term Contract from 7th July 2025 to 6th February 2026, 41 hours per fortnight. It is Level 4 – Level 5, salary $93,490 – $110,413 per annum on pro-rata basis (depending on experience).

To be appointed / successful in this role you will require the following key qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Health, Social Welfare, or related field
  • Provide welfare support and advocacy for residents in treatment
  • Experience working in a residential or community-based AOD program
  • Deliver practical life skills education
  • Assist with referrals, appointments, and transport to external services
  • Support integration and empowerment of residents within the Therapeutic Community
  • Liaise with external agencies including legal and health services
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and statistical data
  • Participate in staff development, supervision, and continuous improvement
  • Willingness and ability to work within the philosophy and culture of the Therapeutic Community model.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and communicate effectively—both verbally and in writing—with clients, families, and colleagues.
  • Current National Police Clearance, Working with Children Check, First Aid Certificate, and Current Driver’s Licence.
