Cannabis and the Developing Brain
The Mental Health Commission with Cancer Council WA has launched the newest Drug Aware campaign ‘Cannabis can harm your developing brain‘, along with the Strong Spirit Strong Mind adaptation ‘Gunja can weaken our brain and our spirit.’
The campaign can be seen on platforms most popular among young people – including TikTok and Instagram, as well as on YouTube and Spotify. The Strong Spirit Strong Mind adaptation will also be promoted in culturally relevant contexts, including Aboriginal radio, youth centres and skate parks. The campaign will run through until August 2023.
Young people who start using cannabis at an early age may be more likely to:
- Drop out of high school
- Become dependent on cannabis
- Use other drugs
- Experience mental health issues, self-harm and suicide
