WANADA is the peak body for the Western Australian alcohol and other drug service sector, with member organisations that deliver a diverse range of services including education, prevention, counselling, residential and therapeutic communities, withdrawal, systems support, intoxication management, and health and harm reduction services.
Aim: To enable a specialist-sector led approach to achieve reduced harms associated with alcohol and other drugs for all Western Australians.
Purpose: To lead a shared voice within the specialist alcohol and other drug service sector that drives and influences systemic change needed to achieve best community outcomes.
WANADA is seeking applications for the role of Chair of the Board
The Chair’s role is to ensure that the board is effective in its legal duties, helping to steer our strategy, and to provide oversight and support to the CEO.
To achieve this, the Chair will:
- have a sound ability to chair a meeting in a fair and inclusive manner whilst enabling robust discussion
- have demonstrated ability with regards to strategy, governance, and leadership
- have the capacity to work with a diverse set of member-based board members and across a range of types of sector organisations
- work closely with the CEO, to ensure the smooth running of governance and oversight processes, board meetings, and agendas
- will be familiar with the challenges and opportunities of running a relatively small and complex organisation and have a good understanding of the issues WANADA focusses on
- have the capacity to understand systems and awareness of the AOD sector system
- have the capacity to lead a diverse, high-calibre board, operating by consensus, whilst fostering constructive debate and challenge
- have experience in implementing the not-for-profit governance principles
- have oversight of application of contemporary governance issues.
Where appropriate, the Chair will represent WANADA at key strategic and community events and meetings organised by WANADA.
This role is appointed by the board as a whole and is not remunerated. Out-of-pocket expenses are reimbursed. The term of office is two years with a further two years option.
